Welcome to the the Website for

James S. Flynn

Author, Storyteller, Sailor, Constant Dreamer.

I'm not really an emu, and I don't smoke. I just don't like my picture taken, so you'll never see my face. I'm not even sure I have one. But I do love emus.

I'm a guitar/banjo/mandolin playing, sailor/ writer/ journalist who lives on the traditional lands of the Bunwurrung people. I love telling stories. Some are believable, some are too good to be true, some are outright BS, but they're fun, and I enjoy telling them. And nothing will stop me!

Not to be confused with the other author named James Flynn. It's why I have an 'S' in my name.

Set for Release 2026

The Emus of Campion Valley

Banished from his flock and left to survive alone in the harsh outback, Emu Bob discovers courage he never knew he had. With a ragtag band of misfits at his side, he leads his flock through drought, floods and being captured and caged in an emu farm used for meat. Ultimately, Emu Bob emerges as the saviour of his nation of emus during the greatest crisis to face the Australian emu. Extermination. When the soldiers declare war on a mob of emus in the Western Australian wheatbelt, they expect an easy victory. What they get instead is the rise of an unlikely hero: Emu Bob - outcast, wanderer, reluctant leader, and future leader of the Jarrabaya Nation of Emu.

But this is more than a tale of battle. It’s a story of kinship, Country, forgiveness, and the ancient emu spirits who watch from the sky. It’s about finding your mob, finding your purpose, and learning that even the smallest feather can shift the winds of fate.

Epic, funny, and deeply Australian, The Emus of Campion Valley reimagines a real piece of history through the eyes of the birds who lived it - and the legend of the emu who changed everything.

Flynn better not write any stories about me or our kids or there'll be hell to pay. - Mrs Flynn (Wife)

I went to school with Flynn, and when he'd write in his notebooks, I always thought he was just drawing cock and balls - Jake (Friend)

He was always a bit of a strange kid. Always in his room writing stories with his imaginary friends instead of outside playing in the dirt with real ones. I wish he'd call more often. I could be dead in my bed and he'd never know. - Mrs Flynn (Mom)

I don't know the guy. Do I? - Local Fish & Chip Shop Owner.

He wanted me to compare him to some Kraut Vonnguts feller, but I've never heard of him. Flynns good, but he's no Louis L'Amour. - Uncle Rico.

If he had a real job instead of being a starving author, he might have money to send me to band camp, or get my teeth fixed, or buy me a phone. Tight arse. - Ollie Flynn (Son)
